Government intervention in our lives and our economy must be rolled back. Over-regulation and overreach by the federal government stifle our economy and weaken our nation. Our businesses and citizens are being crushed by the oppressive federal government, and held back from achieving success. I know that it’s imperative that we roll back these intrusive regulations, and allow our economy to grow.
We are feeling the effect of over-regulation right here in Maine. For example, the expansion of the EPA’s Clean Water Act is threatening family farms, and limiting our ability to grow local food. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which is completely unnecessary and politically motivated, is reducing choices, innovation, and passing costs on to consumers. We must get control of these types of regulations and agencies, and ensure our Maine businesses are able to thrive.
The REINS (Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny) Act, would require an up-or-down vote by both the House and the Senate and the signature of the President before any regulation with an economic effect of $100 million or more could be implemented. This is similar to how the State House here in Maine retains its lawmaking authority. It’s crucial that we pass this legislation, and limit the executive branch’s ability to institute costly regulations with any Congressional input.
